Artist Statement:

In my practice I meditate on human understanding of the physical world through affective ritual with self and other bodies within space. I spend time observing the physical construction of public and private spaces their cultural implications. What I notice about the material and semiotic qualities of these spaces I mimic and manipulate in my installations. I collect and reinterpret refuse, to question why we structure our lives and surroundings the way we do. Morning toilette reveals not only a lot about the identity politics of the individual performing it, but the cultural and physical climate of the environment outside the private bathroom. It is a place for physical care and connection with body as well as a place to prepare for presentation in public. In this way our mundane rituals are the meeting place of our physical and semiotic understanding of ourselves.
