Artist Statement:

The metal objects and service ware I create are intended to enrich the lives of their users as well as promote sustainable practice through their longevity. These vessels, utensils, and tools are intended to be as purposeful as they are beautiful. In the design of these objects I intend to invoke the elegance of natural forms as well as draw from the traditions of metalsmithing. Some of the work features recycled or less expensive materials, as well as multipurpose tools, with the intent of making these objects more accessible to a wider audience.

Biography:

Jacob Bielewicz has been drawn to functional objects since early in life. A good portion of his childhood was spent taking walks in the woods and learning how to use tools. This fostered an attraction to nature as well as the process of using functional objects. Pastimes such chopping wood provided recreation, entertainment, and satisfaction. A fascination with metal and wood as the materials for all varieties of implements was a direct result of this. Now the process of making tools, vessels, and utensils brings as much satisfaction as their use.
