Graduation Year: 2017

Artist Statement:

I am captivated by the aesthetic of abstraction. My current body of work focuses more on formal concepts and less on theoretical concepts. I explore color combinations with more structured line work and drawings to create a complete piece while examining composition at the same time. I concentrate on the power of color and form to create different series of works that are compositionally pleasing to the eye. All of my pieces combine abstraction with more composed drawings.

Caitlin Buchholtz has spent most of her life in Williamsburg, Virginia. She currently resides in Portland, Maine attending Maine College of Art. She is pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Art in Printmaking. In her own work she also incorporates painting, which is an integral part of her printmaking practice. She focuses on exploring composition through formal concepts of form and color and by utilizing abstraction. She is influenced by the different hues and saturations of color in landscapes and is constantly exploring that relationship in her work. She is set to graduate in May of 2017.
