Carla Núñez- Hernandez is a Dominican artist and illustrator currently living in the New England area. Through the invocation of natural elements and magical realism, Carla’s illustrations work with mythological interpretations of Latin American histories. In exploring these histories, her illustrations generate conversations about identity and self-empowerment within diasporic communities. The research that influences Carla’s illustrations are obsessions that fuel the curiosity of those who choose to interact with her work. There is a strong sense of purpose in Carla’s work, as her illustrations address the value and need to respect every living creature on this planet. Carla’s illustrations are an expression of vulnerability, powerful enough to let everyone know how infinitely valuable and loved they are.
