My work focuses on storytelling and charm through whimsical characters and worlds. My thesis game, SYIQ, is an exploration of the hero's journey and the sidekicks role in it. You play as the sidekick Mabel Cogwell as she traverses the perils and obstacles that come with an adventurer's quest in a world of fantasy and magic. Themes of anxiety about the future and failure present in the game are something that is very present in my own life, and I wanted to explore those feelings through the medium of game design. By exploring my own struggles through the character of Mabel, I have created a game that contains heart and charm that hopefully will be relatable to people and let them see themselves as the protagonist of this story.
