Chloë Hammond

Connect

BFA Student

Major: Painting

Graduation Year: 2021

Artist Statement:

Through layered watercolor, stitched-together fabric scraps, overlapped projection video and sound, I have been interested in showing disintegration of the past and attachment to memories, feelings and personal family histories. How these recollections make up who we are as individual people and the connections we have to where and who we come from. These ideas evolve into an interest in time-travel, the study of wear and time, and discovering new connections in the fragmentations found throughout our lives.

Biography:

Chloë Hammond is a painter currently living in Portland, Maine and is attending Maine College of art for her Bfa. Chloë combines her watercolors with a variety of materials such as stitched together fabrics, organic matter, video installation, and sound. Her work portrays fragments of how time unfolds and how we hold onto memories in our lives and the connections we personally have with the environment around us. Right now, Chloës work is focused on her current found family history as she is trying to connect the pieces as to where she came from. This research inspires her to take her family tree apart and put it back together again through mirroring these fragments of data in her stitched fabrics and video mashups.
