Description

This series was created as part of my upcoming solo show. Exploring Painting as sleight of hand and the act of creating something that simultaneously is and is not, I want to trap the viewer in the moment prior to any thought, process, or action. In this way of painting, we can call to the table notions of Virtue and societal accountability. For me, using the imagery of a "blank space", an iPad switched to "off", or "tape" made from paint, Painting becomes a jumping off point for discussing contemporary issues. These issues for me include things like, how we the creators of our own reality are responsible for climate change, or the presence of uncertainty around technology and how it will be employed in future years.

Artist Statement:

Primarily concerned with painting as process, my paintings seek to describe a perceptual process in and of themselves and become frameworks of potentiality rather than images or objects loaded with a specific meaning. Thinking of Painting in this way, as precursory to contextual specificity, I am afforded the ability to examine contemporary issues from a metaphysical vantage, one of openness, emptiness, and potential.
