Exploring the theme of psychic trauma in contemporary art allows the artist to create works that will act as conduits for unresolved issues of psychic trauma, caused by residual feelings of loss and grief. There are common elements of how psychic trauma is processed by people, what images of the phenomena are experienced, the words used to describe the event, and the stages
that people pass through to reach a resolution. It is the artist's premise that there are also commonalities in the imagery that can be used to signify the phenomena in contemporary art. The use of this imagery will allow the artist to act as a "caretaker" by giving his/her audience an entry point to deal with the sensations/feelings around their trauma.
