Description

With this collection, I hope to show the two different influences in fashion I had growing up, the colors from 90s Barbie and the silhouettes and styles from commercial fishing. With these two influences, I started to question the need for gendered fashion and rules in fashion. I create ready to wear clothing. Maine is a very outdoor oriented state with a lot of industry centering around fishing and farming. I infact grew up with close family who were dairy farmers, lobstermen, blueberry rakers, and wreath makers. I remember looking at what they wore and the culture of my local area and feeling comfort and loving the style. Those aspects are how I land on silhouette, build, and material. To add my personal, 90s flair, the color palettes I choose are inspired by the toys I played with as a kid, specifically Barbie. The bright, neon color palettes stick with me as stimulating and beautiful. The duality of these two interests are what help me to create garments I enjoy. I imagine if I was that little kid and had a paint brush, how would I have painted that small, fishing village that was around me.
