Description

For a Major's assignment, I illustrated a cover for Bravery Magazine - Bravery Magazine is a print publication for kids that features strong women role models. I chose Josephine Baker because everyone knows her name, but no one seems to know what she has done in her amazing life. This French superstar, world war II spy and civil rights activist should be more prominent in the history books. I think she is just a badass.

Artist Statement:

My work revolves around my love for dramatic lighting and the challenge of effective storytelling. I strive to push the boundaries of realism and to create captivating art using vivid colors and high contrast. My goal is to create magic in the mundane by taking routine subject matters such as sitting on the train or buying lunch and turning them into magical experiences. Much of my work has been inspired by the vibrance of New York City, a place where I spent much of my childhood. Whenever possible, I also try to focus on womens’ empowerment. I am constantly influenced by the many strong and impactful women in my life. They give me the strength and drive to create and share my work with the world.
