illustration commissioned by MA-based publication GRLSQUASH in response to writer Corrine DaCosta's piece "Sweet Potato Pie" --- "My food voice tells the story of the South ? the rich gravies, buttery cornmeal grits, and fresh-brewed sweet tea. - My food voice tells the story of generations of educated black men and women who also worked the land because they knew the importance of being rooted to the source of their sustenance and grounded by the truth of tradition. - My food memory re-tastes the small but perfect summer strawberries and the savory-sweet onions, the even-sweeter sweet potato pie, and it warms my soul and makes me feel at home, in a country where I do not always feel welcome. "

i strive to create work that’s fun, colorful, and a little bit sassy. the limitless versatility of illustration is what really drew me to the artform, and i love designing products like patches, notepads, calendars, and greeting cards, which i sell at craft fairs and online.
