Description

Sinking Raft is a 6 by 9 foot canvas that directly references Gericauld?s ?Raft of the Medusa? from 1819. The shipwreck is emblematic due to the incompetence of its politically-appointed captain who abandoned the ship and his people at the greatest time of need. In place of shipwreck survivors, the figures are those who actively attacked the United States Capitol, Jan 6, 2020.

Artist Statement:

People are puzzles. These interactive, modular sculptures incorporates life-size silhouettes that can be made and re-made as non-permanent stabiles and mobiles. Made of light-weight extruded polystyrene home insulation, the work is informed by Calder's mobiles, Matisse's cut-outs, and Haring's figurative sculptures.
