Description

Our brains modify that which we retain as memory and that of actual reality. Dealing with the conscious and unconscious mind and how it hides and replaces different memories, I create colorful lidded jars and tableware that deal with this concept. The surface of my work utilizes rust colored decals depicting brain neurons in repeating patterns across the series. I relate these objects as a surrogate to our brain, a vessel which holds memories and information. The surface depictions of neurons render the hidden structures of the brain in order to visualize consciousness. My exploration is working to communicate the ambiguity of consciousness and unconsciousness as visible and tangible. This work is a form of record keeping. Old memories erased or altered, can be metaphorically stored in the work. It is an investigation of the self through a physical reminder of recounting an experience or a memory past. It creates a relationship between people and the object, which establishes a link between a fixed memory and something more elusive.
