Description

From oral traditions to written word, stories are the heart of life. They can inspire, evoke emotion, create conflicts, diffuse tension?they offer a freedom of expression that is only as structured as the author intends it to be and as the receiver is willing to interpret. The story of Peter Pan is both a reminder of the inevitability of death and the boundless power of imagination. Peter exists as an escape from the terrors of adulthood for all children, for all lost souls, but he is also the instigator on directing them toward maturity, a coalescence of many memories and adventures into the realization that to be eternally a child is to be stuck in the same sort of adventures forever. Through research, character design, and illustration, I seek to find a balance between responsibility and whimsy. Neverland can be open to all who keep an inquisitive mind; those who look for faeries under downturned leaves and in the tinkling of bells; who captain their own ships; and who believe that any instant can be made into our next greatest adventure.
