I create installations based on abstract representations of the natural world by using clay and other found material. Bizarre, fantastical forms encourage the viewer to observe what they see and how it relates to the environment around them by creating curiosity through a sense of discomfort and unfamiliarity. The natural world is my largest influence and inspiration. I want to make people wonder about how things grow, how things die, what they feel like and smell like. I’m not recreating flowers and trees that already exist in nature, but instead forming new species, that are often reminiscent of both plant and animal. I am concerned with the lack of attention paid to the world around us. These installations allow for the viewer to discover and make connections of their own.
