Description

Masquerade is an exploration of handwriting and how it can be used as a mask, or disguise, to alter the emotion of the viewer. For this particular project, I chose to use dictators as my subject as they are known to dictate how they want us to think and feel through their words. I started by taking quotes from the worst dictators throughout history and writing them in a beautiful script. Upon first glance, the viewer sees an inspirational quote written in a beautiful handwriting, but soon is no longer inspirational once the viewer sees who said it. The handwriting worked to alter the emotion of the viewer.

Artist Statement:

I believe that in a broad sense, the field of graphic design is about conveying information in a functional manner. Our job is to create designs that are understandable for the viewer. What's interesting about graphic design is it holds an extremely wide range of directions.

My personal work can often be seen as humorous and depending on the project and audience, I like to incorporate a bit of satire. I want the viewer to have a reaction when they see my work and I want my work to be viewed as clever.
