Inspired by natural phenomena, I investigate how I may transcribe selected formal elements found in the environment by using manufactured materials. In exploring natural patterns through a synthetic scope, the audience may become aware of the increasing distance between western culture and wildlife. In fabricating new environments for the spectator to experience, a dialogue may begin by questioning our relationship with the environment.
Caitlin Ervin was born in 1995 and raised in Kittery, Maine. Throughout her childhood she was encouraged to find creative outlets such as music and drawing before discovering an interest in sculpture at Maine College of Art. In response to living in one place her entire life she has developed an obsession with travel and adventure, and is most interested in seeking out remote, natural settings which influences her practice. She is passionate about encouraging the protection of the environment from which she draws her inspiration.
