Description

Tales from Mama Don is a five minute 2D animation following an interview with my mother and I. In the interviews with her I aimed to tell small parts of her stories and create a better picture of her life. In focusing on the generational tradition of art that she passed on to me, from my grandmother and great grandmother, who passed them to my mother. Tales from Mama Don tells how our creative family traditions have connected the last four generations of artists in my family.

Artist Statement:

My name is Joe Donovan, I have been animating for a little over three years, and I aim to bring meaning things to life in my work that otherwise would remain unseen. Originally I was interested in using the formal elements of symbolism, and mythology to convey meaning, however lately I've focused primarily on storytelling. My work consists of 2D animations, and a majority of my work is done in traditional medias, using light tables, charcoal and hand drawn figures. Recently beginning to explore applications of more with digital techniques of animation. Learning to use, Stencyl, Maya, Aurasma and Adobe products like, Animate, Photoshop, Indesign, Premiere, After Effects and Character Animator to bring my animations to life.
